Access to gallery in the Cañaveral sewer system

Eurohinca has developed a high slope ramming project for access to a gallery in the Cañaveral sewer system. The excavation was carried out with a pending 36% using a Open Shield TBM with excavator arm and technology DN2500The borehole stability and accuracy in the layout are ensured.

Location and context of the project

The project was carried out in a key infrastructure for the sewerage network of the area of Canaveralwhere access to subway galleries required a precise and safe drilling method. The work was executed in an environment with sandy and clay soilsThis required an exhaustive control of the excavation to avoid ground displacements.

Characteristics of the work

  • Construction method: Extreme slope drive with Hydroshield DN2500
  • Total length of the tunnel: 40 meters
  • Pending drilling: 36%
  • Type of tunnel boring machine: Open Shield with digging arm
  • Geology of the terrain: Sand and clay soils
  • Environment: Urban infrastructure with access restrictions

Technical challenges

The main challenge of the project was the Pile-driving execution with an inclination of 36%This required total control of the trajectory to avoid slippage of the excavated material. In addition, the site had to ensure safe and efficient access to the gallery without compromising the stability of the existing structure.

Another key challenge was the excavation in sandy and clayey soilsThis required continuous monitoring to avoid collapse and ensure proper soil compaction.

Solutions implemented

To overcome these challenges, Eurohinca implemented the following solutions:
✔️ Use of Open Shield TBM with excavator armideal for drilling in loose and steeply inclined soils.
✔️ Real-time guidance and monitoring systemsensuring the precise alignment of the tunnel.
✔️ Ground reinforcement techniquesThe excavation stability is guaranteed in soils with low cohesion.
✔️ Coordination with infrastructure managersThe impact on the existing sewage network will be minimized.

Results and benefits

The project was successfully completed, allowing access to the sewerage gallery with minimal impact on the land and ensuring an efficient connection with the subway infrastructure. The drilling was carried out on schedule, optimizing resources and ensuring the safety of the intervention.

This project is a clear example of how the high inclination remote-controlled pile driving is an effective solution for the modernization of sewerage network access in complex urban environments.
