What information should I have before requesting a technical meeting on a trenchless crossing?

Before ordering a technical meeting for a trenchless crossing, It is worthwhile to prepare a minimum “pack” of information so that, in that first session, Eurohinca can guide the most viable method (e.g. Pipe jacking, Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) o Direct Pipe) and define the next steps without wasting time.

The basic things to bring are:

  • Crossing objective and scopeWhat infrastructure is to be crossed (road, railroad, river, port area, urban fabric) and what is to be installed (water, sewage, rainwater, impulsion, gas, industrial piping). If you are already clear about the type of associated works, it helps to indicate if the following are foreseen vertical wells and implementation conditions.

  • Preliminary plan and layouta simple plan (PDF or screenshot) with approximate layout and possible points of attack/reception. Even if it is an “A/B” alternative, it is enough to start to fit a solution.

  • Environmental constraintsThe following are some of the factors that determine the availability of surface area (storage, access, schedules, coexistence with traffic and neighbors) and constraints of the administration or operators (roads, railroads, port, confederation). If there is mapping of services, the better.

  • Minimum terrain dataIf it exists, geotechnical or information from nearby works; if not, an expected description of the terrain and if water is present (even if qualitative) already helps to focus the method.

  • Customer/operator requirementsIf the specifications specify piping material, commissioning conditions or final documentation, it is advisable to include them in order to avoid solutions that do not fit later on.

With this information, the meeting usually closes three things: (1) whether the crossing is constructible and what conditions apply, (2) which alternative is more reasonable and what data are missing to confirm it, and (3) whether it should be approached as a complete execution or as a Technical assistance and engineering depending on the stage of the project.

If you want to internally support the meeting with a “neutral” industry reference on trenchless technologies and technical documentation, a useful source of authority is the International Society for Trenchless Technology (ISTT), in its Trenchless Resource Documents: https://istt.com/page/trenchless-resource-documents

If you already have a plan + preliminary layout + restrictions, enter by Contact and schedule the technical meeting with these attachments so that the analysis can be direct.
