Connection between collectors at Lagares WWTP
The project of the sewerage collector at Lagares WWTP consisted of the construction of a subway connection between wastewater collectors. The work was carried out using a Hidroshield DN2500 shielddesigned for drilling terrains with variable geotechnical conditions, including rock and swampy areas.
General project details
LocationLagares WWTP, Spain
Main objectiveConstruction of a connection between sewage collectors.
Geological conditionsRock and swampy terrain.
Technology usedHydroshield DN2500.
Total tunnel length: 611 meters.
Drilling sections:
196 meters on rock.
428 meters in swampy terrain.
Technical specifications
Nominal diameter: 2,500 mm.
Method usedExcavation with Hidroshield shield.
Digging face pressure control to minimize ground settlement.
Logistics and technical challenges
The project presented technical challenges due to the combination of hard and soft ground, which required constant monitoring and adjustments to the excavation.
Project highlights
Excavation in two different soil typesrequiring adaptations to the tunnel boring machine.
Optimization of the sanitation systemimproving the connection between collectors.
Use of Hidroshield technology to control pressure in unstable areas.
Environmental and social impact
The sanitation collector at the Lagares WWTP improves wastewater management capacity and optimizes the sanitation infrastructure in the area.
Reduction of environmental impactthanks to controlled excavation.
Modern and efficient infrastructure for water treatment.
Improvements to the sewerage networkbenefiting the quality of service in the area.
