The main <strong data-start=\"275\" data-end=\"284\">challenges<\/strong> are grouped into four blocks:<\/p><ul data-start=\"316\" data-end=\"917\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"316\" data-end=\"470\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"318\" data-end=\"470\"><strong data-start=\"318\" data-end=\"334\">Hydraulics:<\/strong> floods with high return periods, slope and slope scour, cross currents and pipeline buoyancy.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"471\" data-end=\"588\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"473\" data-end=\"588\"><strong data-start=\"473\" data-end=\"489\">Geotechnical:<\/strong> saturated soils, poorly competent alluvial soils, presence of blocks or irregular bedrock.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"589\" data-end=\"781\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"591\" data-end=\"781\"><strong data-start=\"591\" data-end=\"622\">Environmental and regulatory:<\/strong> turbidity, protection of ichthyofauna, spawning windows, Public Hydraulic Domain and authorizations from Hydrographic Confederations or Maritime Authorities.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"782\" data-end=\"917\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"784\" data-end=\"917\"><strong data-start=\"784\" data-end=\"799\">Logistics:<\/strong> limited access, daily hydraulic level variations, river or road traffic that must be kept operational.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><h4 data-start=\"924\" data-end=\"971\">\u00a0<\/h4><h2 data-start=\"924\" data-end=\"971\">Standard procedure for a river crossing<\/h2><ol data-start=\"973\" data-end=\"2666\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"973\" data-end=\"1156\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"976\" data-end=\"1156\"><strong data-start=\"976\" data-end=\"996\">Previous studies<\/strong><br data-start=\"996\" data-end=\"999\" \/>Topobathymetric survey, geotechnical soundings and hydraulic models (e.g. HEC-RAS) to calculate runoff, scour and maximum water level.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1158\" data-end=\"1617\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1161\" data-end=\"1199\"><strong data-start=\"1161\" data-end=\"1197\">Selection of construction method<\/strong><\/p><ul data-start=\"1203\" data-end=\"1617\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1203\" data-end=\"1330\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1205\" data-end=\"1330\"><strong data-start=\"1205\" data-end=\"1238\">Microtunneling or <a href=\"https:\/\/eurohinca.com\/en\/direct-pipe\/\">Direct Pipe<\/a><\/strong> for deep, straight crossings where millimeter slope and minimum turbidity are required.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1334\" data-end=\"1463\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1336\" data-end=\"1463\"><a href=\"https:\/\/eurohinca.com\/en\/horizontal-directional-drilling\/\"><strong data-start=\"1336\" data-end=\"1377\">Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)<\/strong><\/a> for long curved paths and cohesive soils, avoiding excavation in the bed.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1467\" data-end=\"1617\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1469\" data-end=\"1617\"><strong data-start=\"1469\" data-end=\"1511\">Open sky with channel detour<\/strong> (cofferdams, sheet piles or inverted siphon) when the sheet of water is small and the impact is assumable.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1619\" data-end=\"1829\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1622\" data-end=\"1829\"><strong data-start=\"1622\" data-end=\"1654\">Environmental management and permits<\/strong><br data-start=\"1654\" data-end=\"1657\" \/>Presentation of the Impact Study, turbidity control plans, sediment curtains, and definition of \"biological windows\" to be executed during minimum flows.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1831\" data-end=\"2001\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1834\" data-end=\"2001\"><strong data-start=\"1834\" data-end=\"1859\">Detailed engineering<\/strong><br data-start=\"1859\" data-end=\"1862\" \/>Design of jackets, joints and ballasts against buoyancy; calculation of anti-erosion protections (gabions, breakwater, articulated blocks).<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"2003\" data-end=\"2354\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2006\" data-end=\"2354\"><strong data-start=\"2006\" data-end=\"2019\">Execution<\/strong><br data-start=\"2019\" data-end=\"2022\" \/><em data-start=\"2025\" data-end=\"2042\">Laser stakeout<\/em>The installation of topographic monitoring points and hydraulic control stations.<br data-start=\"2128\" data-end=\"2131\" \/>- In microtunnel\/HDD: closed bentonite mixture and pressure monitoring to avoid \"frac-out\".<br data-start=\"2233\" data-end=\"2236\" \/>- In the open air: temporary channeling, excavation, placement of the pipeline and compacted select backfill.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"2356\" data-end=\"2510\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2359\" data-end=\"2510\"><strong data-start=\"2359\" data-end=\"2387\">Protection and restitution<\/strong><br data-start=\"2387\" data-end=\"2390\" \/>Placement of geotextile blankets, wildlife ramps, revegetation of riverbanks and removal of temporary infrastructure.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"2512\" data-end=\"2666\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2515\" data-end=\"2666\"><strong data-start=\"2515\" data-end=\"2551\">Commissioning and follow-up<\/strong><br data-start=\"2551\" data-end=\"2554\" \/>Sealing and geophonic tests;
